Privacy Policy — Tigrinya Prayer Times

Summary

This app calculates prayer times using your GPS location. No account is required, no personal data leaves your device except coordinates sent to the Aladhan API for prayer time calculation and data processed by Google AdMob for advertising. All other data stays local.

2. What Data We Collect and Why

2.1 Location Data (GPS)

The app requests access to your device's location (precise GPS or coarse network location) to calculate accurate Islamic prayer times and to display the Qibla compass direction.

Location is used only at the moment you open the app or when you manually refresh prayer times.
Your coordinates are sent to the Aladhan API (aladhan.com) — a free, open-source prayer time calculation service. No personally identifiable information is attached to this request.
Coordinates are cached locally on your device so the app works offline after the first successful load. This local cache is stored in the app's private database (Room) and is never uploaded anywhere.
We do not store, share, or sell your location data.

2.2 Advertising Data (Google AdMob)

The app uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect and use data to show you relevant ads, including:

Advertising identifiers (Google Ad ID)
IP address and coarse location
Device information (model, OS version)
App usage data (ad impressions, clicks)

This data is processed by Google LLC in accordance with their privacy policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time in your Android device settings under Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID.

2.3 Ad-Free Preferences

If you earn ad-free time by watching rewarded videos, the expiry timestamp and video counter are stored locally on your device using Android DataStore. This data never leaves your device.

2.4 Notification Preferences

Your Azan notification settings (which prayers to receive notifications for, notification time offsets) are stored locally using Android DataStore. No notification data is transmitted to any server.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

No user account or registration is required.
No name, email address, or contact information is collected.
No analytics or crash reporting SDKs are included beyond what AdMob provides.
No data is sold to third parties.
The Ge'ez and Tigrinya liturgical texts (Agpeya canonical hours) are stored entirely within the app — no server request is made to display them.

4. Third-Party Services

The app communicates with the following external services:

Aladhan API — prayer time calculation.
Data sent: latitude, longitude, calculation method. No personal identifiers.

5. Permissions

ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — to determine your position for prayer time calculation and Qibla direction.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS — to deliver Azan notifications for each prayer time.
INTERNET — to fetch prayer times from the Aladhan API and to load advertisements.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — to reschedule Azan notifications after the device restarts.

All permissions are requested at runtime and can be revoked at any time in your Android device settings.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All data stored by this app (cached prayer times, notification preferences, ad-free status) resides in the app's private storage on your device. You can delete all data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app data in Android Settings → Apps → Tigrinya Prayer Times → Clear data.

7. Children's Privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The latest version is always available at this URL. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
